My secret garden........

So! I had this great idea for the most amazing blog. I would show you the transformation of my yards "ugly corner" into a cool, refreshing hideaway. Not only would it be fantastic but it would be done with all recycled materials. Minimal cost. Just imagination, several whipped together artsy creations and some work. Not even back breaking work.

Then summer arrived. And it got hot. I don't work in the yard when it gets hot. I forgot that part. So my ugly corner still looks like this:

However, from what I am understanding -- we are supposed to be getting some temperatures in the 80's and now I can get to it. I have an old metal trellis which I am going to smother with broken limbs, branches and vines. I also have found my old brick to lay the patio (after I dig out that grass). My hostas need dividing in the front yard--free plants!!! I'm just certain it will look something like this any day now!!

Hmmm, gotta find that old bench..............

Why is this heading on here??? This is my inspiration photo for my brick design. I bet mine ends up looking even better than this..................

oh. A bridge is nice, isn't it?? I'll just have to extend into the neighbors. They like me. A lot! I'm sure that will be no problem........

So wish me luck and I'll be sure to post "after" pictures.

Voting started recently for the Boise Weekly's annual Best of Boise issue. So, of course, here am I encouraging everyone to go vote and hopefully vote for good goods & co as "Best Gift Shop"!

(yes!! they have finally put in a category where I don't have to compete against the Co-op and Record Exchange who nudged me into third place a few years back!!!)

I admit it looks intimidating (since you have to register) but it's really quite simple and fun. Makes me aware of all the different areas of shopping, dining, cultural and outdoor activities we have to enjoy in this great town.

When it comes to something like this, I have no shame. No pride. A small, independent store like mine can't buy advertising this effective and a small independent store like mine needs it!!!!

The state of retail today........

On my left sidebar is a list of some of my favorite blogs. One of them is Curious Sofa, an out of this world store in Kansas City owned by uber talented Debbie Dusenberry. Her recent post "Hurtful" made me stand up and cheer. This woman not only has vision and heart but balls!! And I say that in the most complimentary way imaginable! See what I mean.

HA!! Summer is finally here!!!

For someone that dreads the intense heat we get here at times, I am finally glad to feel some WARMTH when I step outside!! However, it's still "cool inside" at the shop and it's looking pretty cool, too.

Been fluffing and getting ready for our Fourth Anniversary Celebration coming up here this weekend~June 25 & 26. This year we're closing on Friday to get things set up for an adult party with some delicious food such as:

Making it through these tough times hasn't been easy. Any success we have we owe to our customers that support us, tell their friends about us, share their stories and smiles. Most times you buy but sometimes you say you just need "therapy" or an "escape" and that is a wonderful thing to hear. What a compliment!
