YEAR END SALE!

Wednesday, December 26-Monday, December 31

Those of you that frequent good goods know that we hold only two store wide sales each year.  Our Year End Sale is our biggest and it's fast and furious. (oh well, maybe short and and mildly intense)

Everything on the floor is at least 20% off, with seasonal half off.  Colored tags will mark items that are more steeply discounted.
Keep your eyes open for those!

Take advantage of our discounts if you've had your eye on something--merchandise goes quickly!!!

It is the best time of the year...

Especially for the small merchants.  We get to see all the familiar faces and lots and lots of new ones.  Sales are up and the livin' is easy!!...

We beat out the big box stores with great service and unique products.  We care.  We really do!!  We appreciate each and every customer.  We notice if you don't come in for a while.  Macy's doesn't.

Independent merchants have it made as long as we remember why we've got it all over the chains and massive retailers.  We're personal.  Not just personnel.  We're nimble and don't need cumbersome corporate approval.

Of course, it helps to live in a smaller city that is supportive of local business like Boise.  We know each other. We're neighbors.  We run into each other at the grocery store and dry cleaners.

Thank you all for supporting me in doing what I love.

Have the happiest holiday month!

Hugs,
Cheri

11-5pm

This is a very big day for small businesses across the country and we'd love to see each you!  We've invited three local artists to join us for a little something different.  It's a good way to get your spirit on!

Of course, we'll be open on Black Friday for our relaxed, kicked back version of the madness.  Pour yourself mimosas will be available (but bring your own turkey sandwich)

Enjoy the season with us!

Pumpkin "Carving"

Anymore, if you carve a pumpkin like the one pictured below you are considered an old fashioned slacker. Bah! Is that the best you can do?  (frankly, mine usually have the triangle eyes as well....)

Now, these are the jack-o-lanterns of the 21st century:

Marvels of the patch, we can barely understand how this is done.

And although a simplified design, this one would still take me three hours to carve.  No, no, no.  Carving a pumpkin should take a half hour. Tops.

Ok, we're getting closer to my requirements with this skeleton prison!

Oh, and I love this fellow but, again....a time vampire and verging on how did they do that?:

If you have one of these--you can crank out about forty pumpkins in an hour.

And if you have one of these and don't know how to use it--shame, shame on you,
 you completely anti feminist boogie.
This knowledge will set you free. Promise.

You open up your pumpkin from the bottom because most the guts come out a lot easier that way.  Gutting a pumpkin is the worse part, don't you agree?

Then start drillin'!

Go random or spirals-more and more and more!

Polka dots, words, designs. Then shove some Christmas lights up inside.  No fire, no sharp knives!

And although I'm partial to this arrangement....my drilled pumpkins (painted white 'cause I'm not paying that much for those Luna punkins) would look every bit as wonderful.

Have fun!

Halloween in my lifetime

The first costume I remember, I wore a store bought Bugs Bunny get-up with the mask made of that woven, stiff, scratchy fabric.  We lived on the Air Force Base in Massachusetts and every house for a thousand square miles had kids.  The pickings were great back then.

You only needed a brown paper bag and your older
sister (who was probably 12 herself at the time) to make sure you didn't get lost.

Cool treats. People weren't putting nasty things in our candy at that time.
I swear I'd make that bag last until March.
The Bit-O-Honey would chip a tooth by that time but who cared?

Even the T.V. looked like Halloween in the '50's.

Decorations were simple.  One Biestle jointed cat, witch,
or skeleton taped on the front door...

....and your basic Jack-o-lantern and you were done.

One of the all time scary movies...ahhhh!
(I actually didn't see this until a slumber party in the mid 60's)
Who didn't freak out in the shower after this thriller?

 The innocence of Halloween...

...and the evil Rosemary's Baby side.  No one was surprised
when Roman Polanski came to no good after this one!

The sixties didn't change much. Except that now my family was making home made costumes and it was just my brother and me.  My sister was too old to keep us safe and on the right street and I guess by this time my folks didn't care if we got lost.

We had these guys around all year and the "sophistication" of Halloween can be credited to them.  Now, "scary" could be funny.  We could laugh at evil children--they were harmless!
And they were.

Compared to these fellows, parents figured that,
yes, evil kids were a great alternative.

Because this is what your tiny fireman and Sleeping Beauty had turned into.
Halloween nightmare!
Real kids were getting spooky in the 70's.

And the movies, well, not your standard family entertainment.
(I never did force myself to watch this one)

However, Linda Blair had us telling ghost stories in the car
for two hours after the movie let out.  Fear was fun!

The icing on my Halloween cake had to be the Mall Crawl in Boulder, CO.
This was the first time I was exposed to such creativity in costuming.
Fun, fun, crazy, packed and closed down sometime in the late 80s when people imbibed excessively on what ever they could get their hands on.

Thank heaven for super heroes so the little guys still looked darling and thought that, for one night, they were saving the planet.  And got paid in candy to do it.

Trading in our snake charmer, belly revealing, sexy costumes for something more wholesome, my Mall Crawl cohorts were growing up.  And dressing respectably.

I moved away from dressing up myself
and wanted to dress up everything else.

Still one of my favorites-Spooky Blue.  Which, although he's been bookmarked for years, I've never attempted to make him.

Would love this guy in my yard though.

Or this....

 .. this...

or this.

Or maybe this?

It's always been about silly fun for me!
