Days until Christmas: 3

Three days until Christmas morning. Now the pressure is on for those of us that seem to love that last minute battle to get it done!!!

So, I tried (yes, tried!) to get to the dreaded area around the mall a few days ago for one of the last gifts I needed. And I gave up. You read it right. Gave. Up. Where do all those cars come from???! And I was soooo sly. I went the back route and cut through parking lots only I knew about and...there were all those cars again!!! Forget it.

I headed downtown to an independent shop, parked about three car lengths away from the front door and was in and out in less than ten minutes, gift in hand.

The lesson in this: learn from my mistakes! Avoid the big boys and shop your little local shops.

If you're still shopping, we just might have what you need. We got in some great new jewelry, scarves and flat wallets this past week. Priced from $8-$52, you won't be breaking the bank, either.

Christmas is on sale if you still need a little touch of the season here and there. We're always happy to see you and glad to help if we can. Save your sanity for when your really need it!!
Ho, ho, ho--

Days Until Christmas: 14

Although Christmas is quickly creeping up, there is still plenty of time left before the "big day" to get done what really has to be done! And what has to be done is enjoy what is in front of us and to know how lucky and blessed we all are. I've got about half my shopping done, my tree is not yet up and my fall/Halloween decorations are sitting in a pile in our office. So what do I plan to do? Throw a spur of the moment party for a great friend this Sunday......why not? Her birthday is coming up & with Christmas, she always seems passed over. Not fair!!!

And what are your plans? If coming into good goods is one of them-here's a little of what you'll see!

Love this old, old silverplate shaving mirror...dripping w/ lockets. Oh, just ordered a lot of new jewelry that is no where else in Boise--will be in the beginning of next week!

Sparkle & shine.

One of my favorite sayings. SOLD

A wide angle shot w/ the crooked lamp shade almost smack dab in the middle....well, you get the idea!!

"Book" boxes.
Enjoy the season. Enjoy this frigid weather! Enjoy your families & your friends!!!
Best,
Cheri

Days Til Christmas: 21

Yes, twenty one days until "The Day" but another way of looking at it is: we still have twenty one days to enjoy a wonderful, beautiful season. We still have time to relax and enjoy some old traditions and, maybe, make some new ones.

I quit making Christmas cookies years ago. Then good old Pillsbury came up with the "pre-made (and rolled) sheets of dough. Yippee!! I always liked decorating best anyway. That tradition is back on the list. I haven't sent out Christmas cards for several years for "lack of time". Unfortunately, this was the one time each year I reminded some relatives and old friends that I hadn't forgotten them. So, this one is going back in-sort of. I'm sending out New Years Greetings in 2010. It just made sense to me and besides....there are some cute cards out there for New Years. In fact, we will be expecting exactly that in the shop in a few weeks!

Oh, that reminds me...the shop! (how convenient!) We're still getting shipments of new merchandise and I even added a few new lines that came in last week. I snapped a shot here and there in case you were wanting to take a peek.

I love this Swedish inspired clock.

Restocked our paperweight kits.

A new line for us that has gotten a great reception.

One of our favorites: books! And a sample of a clock from a new vendor.

Sets of magnets from a local gal.

...more books!

Bling for....everyday!

IMPORTANT INFO: We will be open on Sundays from noon until 4:00 through December 20!We'd been getting frequent requests and "Gee, I wish you were open on...." so we've adjusted the schedule to accommodate!!

Thirty Six (36) Days Until Christmas.........

Before I get into the real meat of this blog I want to thank everyone that turned up for our Season Opener. What crowds we had over the three days--and fun, fun people!! It was an amazing start to the holidays. I also want to thank Samuel Ward, our piper, for playing his bagpipes on Friday night. If you missed him--darn. He. Was. Incredible.

Also a huge thanks to Lesli and Lori from Shabby House and Nancy (oh, alright and probably Victoria...!) from Once Upon A Time Antiques, for banding together for our joint Shop Hop. People really seemed to get a kick out of it and loved discovering new places to hunt treasure.

Now that the big "reveal" is over I'd love to be able to slow down a notch....or two. I'm amazed that Thanksgiving is in a week. The traffic in the store has increased. A lot. Yes, the holiday season is upon us. So here is a reminder to all of us (especially me!) to breathe in, breathe out. Relax. And since I haven't had a second to get some pictures of the shop--let's look at something calming from some of my favorite Scandinavian blogs. Very sedate. Under done.

The simplest of trees! And real candles!

A simple, sweet, natural take on plain white tapers.

Decorated. Simply.

Candlelight is beautiful, isn't it?

I love these stark little wreaths/rings.

This one looks like rosemary. And an antique candle clip.

And look!! We have very similar little lanterns in the store!!
As promised, we've had time now to bring out even more at the shop. Boxes have come in and we're working on getting everything out and in it's proper place. And more good news: we're not playing Christmas music yet!!!
Take good care,
Cheri

The cider will be out and yes, some of it will be “hard” !
That night we'll also have all Halloween merchandise at 25% off!!!!

Part I--My Front Porch at Halloween

As I've told many of you, it's very important to deck out my front porch so as to frighten certain kids. Several years ago, the elementary aged twins across the street informed me that "my porch wasn't scary". I took that as a dare and have been trying to improve every year. Heck, they are getting older and aren't nearly as easy to frighten.....but I work on it and thought I'd show you the first stages!!

Need tons more leaves to gather themselves in front of the door.

(Click on any picture to enlarge)

Of course, I have to have some fun. I'd love for my husband to dress up like a ghoul, sit in a chair in the dark portion of the sidewalk and whisper very softly "psst, got chocolate?" as each innocent trick-or-treater walks up......come on--it could save on candy!!

This is how I use some of the merchandise you've seen at the store-yards of black cheesecloth and, of course, the haunted portraits. I want to add a few more of those...!

A ghoulish light is a must. I have a huge branch to add that will overhang the entrance some. I'll add some bats to that. I also have a CD with the best, spooky old horror flick music.

Check back for some additions...coming soon!! What do you like to do??

Best,
Cheri

Spooky.........................

Here are some random shots from around the store. I stayed very late (early) fluffing on Sunday night (morning) and making room for all the new inventory that's coming in. I'm near brain death so these shall be caption-less!!

We've been enjoying busy days. If you haven't been in lately-make plans!!!
Best,
Cheri

For the Birds

I've been wanting to create something just for fun's sake and today-- I decided that I had the time! Then I thought " I'll share this on the blog". So here you go!

APPLE BIRD FEEDER
What you will need:

An apple, two 20" lengths of wire ( I used about 19g) and something else the birdies might enjoy. I had some ?millet? just laying around (!) so I decided to use that.

Some pliers, twine, and something else edible to string onto the wire. I was thinking cranberries but didn't have any (what kind of house do I run here???) so I used craisins!

Thread both wires through the apple so that....

they come out of the center in the bottom of the apple.

Use your pliers to curl up the end of the wires. this is decorative but will also stop the apple from sliding off. Kerplunk.

Back to the top of the apple. Twist the two wired together for a length, separate them and...

... string your cranberries, craisins, raisins -whatever -on to the wires and bend the ends of the wire into a sturdy hook.

Tie on millet-again whatever you found- and voila!!

Hang the creation in a tree so the little critters can find it. I'm curious to see what happens!
Bye for now,
Cheri
