National Small Business Week-May 20-26

As a very small business owner, I appreciate the attention Washington shines on the little guy this week.  I really do.  Unfortunately...I just became aware of this "celebration" today, halfway through the week!  Hmmm. I must have missed all that advertising...........

Gene Marks wrote a great column on the Huffington Post today, however, that celebrates big businesses' roll in American economics.  We often demonize those behemoths unfairly.  Marks states that one-half of American employees work for large corporations.  What does this means to small business?  The big guys provide the wages that buy from little businesses.

Don't ever take this as my approval for not buying local any chance you can!

And that takes care of that!!

Hope to see you during "our" week!
Best,
Cheri

New! At good goods

Our "Not Your Typical Tea" was this past Saturday and for once, I remembered to take a few pictures of the "set up".

Tea sandwiches, lemon bars, eclairs, etc plus tea and "tea".

Our first guests dug right in and then--all hell broke loose and the store was packed.  What a hoot it was.  I tell you, these gals were at their best that day.  Annie & her mom, Linda, entertained everyone for awhile and made me cry- I was laughing that hard.  Women never cease to amaze and uplift me!!

Here is a short tour around the shop as we have so much new and different in now.  Of course, my straggler orders are now showing up...I have issues with getting everything ordered to show up at the correct time. (hey, I'm new at this)

Now angel vine isn't new to good goods but some containers to put it in are.(hmmm, think Ms. Cowden from 11th grade English would be cringing after that sentence...)

Cubbies!!  Always a favorite here. 7' X 4' and 96 cubs.

Attention getting yardstick products just arrived today.  These are priced right.

Three sizes of planters!

Canvas art w/ bees and butterflies.

Our sunshine corner is filling up nicely.

I just loved the yardstick birdhouse.

Embroidered pillows with motifs to fit this season.  It's here folks!  As soon as our banners show up:

The rest of the patriotic/July 4th will be brought out from the back room.  Where does the time go?!

Love to all of you,
Cheri

Fairy Gardens............

A guest was in the shop today on the hunt for some type of container suitable for a fairy garden.
If you haven't heard about these charmers, you're in for a treat.

Anything that will entice a fairy to stop in is added.

What is so fun is that everything is..

...miniature!

Little plants, arbors...

or a sweet table and chair.

Some are simple..

..and some require a degree in engineering!

I order from a company out of Georgia that carries an amazing amount of the sweetest, small scale, really cool fairy garden items.  Tools about 2" long..

...planters and a statue.  (because fairies have great taste.)

Even tiny bell jars.

And a teeny red bike!

Probably my favorite~the gazebo with a chandelier complete with candles.
(I need a spare grandchild...anyone??)

And this is the fairy garden for over achievers.

Is anyone looking for things like this?  Should I be ordering these??

Have a good one!

Spring changing into Summer.....

This is what we've all been waiting for--warmer, sunny weather.  Getting out of our little cubicles in life and expanding our space--yum, outdoor living!

It's time to clean up the yard and.........

...get our plants going on their own because there is so much to enjoy-outside.

Barbecue.  Even scrambled eggs cooked in a skillet on the grill are a treat!

Concerts at the Botanical Gardens.

Floating the river

Music downtown.

Just being downtown!

Enjoying the greenbelt running through town.

Being a hippie, again, at Hyde Park! (well, I'm old enough to say again!)

Enjoying a get away to the wilderness.

Fishing in pristine water.

Casual at the Sun Ray...

...or casual in Bodo!

Getting up to Stanley and roughing it in style.

Just having fun.

And for me?  One of my favorite spots especially in the morning
and then again after dark-my own deck!

What are you looking forward to?

Happy May Day!

Summer's on it's way!!
